Project 2018 was created over 10 years ago as a joint project of the SPEECH Tchoban&Kuznetsov architectural bureau and Alexei Nazarenko to manage projects, develop urban planning documentation, and act as the technical coordinator for major projects planned for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The first such project was the Skolkovo Innovation Center layout.
In 2012, the company began to develop urban planning documentation independently; a year later, it prepared and approved a planning project for the Microtown in the Forest residential complex (Stage 3). By then, Project 2018 was actively involved in all major urban projects in Moscow, such as the construction of transport interchange hubs, the New Moscow, the Renovation Program, etc.
In 2014, we introduced our general design and volumetric architecture direction. Many talented chief architects with experience in leading architectural firms (Speech, TPO Reserve) joined our bureau, including Alexander Laiko, Ekaterina Pauli, Alexander Ponomarev and others.
In 2018, the company created the Structural department; in 2019, Igor Barabash, who had previously held similar positions at Mikhail Posokhin Mosproekt-2 JSC and TPO Reserve, became its head. Today, the department develops design solutions of any complexity for the company's own projects, and also for prominent Russian and foreign bureaus such as OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture), Design Erick van Egeraat, Mecanoo, SPEECH and others.
In 2021, Marina Egorova, formerly Deputy Director of the Moscow General Planning Institute for Reconstruction and Mandatory Inspection and Head of the New Moscow Department of Moscow Architecture Committee, became the company’s key partner in urban planning activities.
Today, the company runs over 25 area planning projects with the total area of 7,000+ hectares. About 1 million m² worth of structures of different purposes have been commissioned or are being built under the bureau’s projects. A further 500,000+ m² are in the process of designing.
